A question worth answering.
Therefore they inquired of the LORD further, “Has the man come here yet?”
And the LORD answered, “There he is, hidden among the equipment.”
1Sam 10:22 (NKJV)
In 1Sam 8 Israel had done the unthinkable - they called on the prophet Samuel and asked him to set over them a king so they could look like every other nation. This request broke the heart of Samuel and when he brought it before the Lord it broke His heart. The Lord had a vision for Israel and it was to make them a great nation, a nation like no other nation. The heart of the Lord was that Israel would be a nation who would place all their trust, hope and faith in Him and Him alone.
What is amazing is that as this event progresses we read in 1Sam 8 that the Lord instructs the prophet to inform Israel of what life will be like when they are led by man and his wisdom. It was going to be a life filled with oppression, bondage and burdens too heavy to bear. In verse 20 the people of Israel cry out in spite of the warnings, "that we may be like all the other nations, and that our king may judge us and go before us and fight our battles". Israel desired to hide behind man. They refused to step outside their comfort zone and wanted to hide behind everything that made them comfortable, even wanting to hide behind the willingness of someone else to fight their battles.
My friends, we have to learn from the mistakes of those who went before us. God is calling His church to a place where we can no longer find comfort in our own abilities. He is calling His church to a place of greater faith where all our trust, faith and hope is in His Son Jesus Christ.
In 1Sam 10:22 the prophet Samuel causes all the nation of Israel to gather together and introduces them to their new king, only to find Saul hiding behind the equipment. As I read this the Spirit revealed to me that the equipment represents our place of comfort. The equipment represents the safety place where all we have to do is trust in ourselves and our own abilities. Hiding behind the equipment is living in the place that requires very little faith or trust in God.
Ask yourself the question: Am I hiding behind the Equipment?
It’s time for the Church to move away from our comfort zones. It’s time for the Church to come out from behind the equipment and move into the calling God has for us. Meditate on 1Samuel chapters 8 through 12 and be encouraged as the Spirit reveals the truth behind Romans 8:14 "for as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.”
Enjoy the journey!
