The story of Christmas is one of HOPE and LOVE that is as real today as it was some 2000 years ago. The Bible tells us in the Gospel of Luke - Chapter 1 verse 11, “in the little town of David, a Savior was born who is Christ the Lord." This perfect gift was given to the world by God as a way of reconciling all who will call on the name of Jesus...
The more I read and meditate on God’s Word during the Christmas Season I see how it really is all about three completely different journeys where God used ordinary people to do extraordinary things.
In the Gospels, Mary is described as a maidservant, Joseph is described as a just man and the angels appeared to a bunch of shepherds who spent the majority of their time hanging out in fields with sheep and limited human interaction. But God and all His wisdom took this group who would be considered the most unqualified and unlikely choice and set them on a divine journey that would change the world forever.
Mary and Joseph were on a journey to Bethlehem, the shepherds were on a trip to a manger, and the wise men were simply following a star.
Each journey had different motives, expectations and circumstances surrounding it, but in the end each of them were fulfilled. Mary and Joseph gave birth to the Son, the shepherds found the Savior, and the wise men found their King.
My friend, the story is the same for you and me. We are all on a journey through this life seeking fulfillment and searching for hope. We are all limited by the frailty of our humanity. But the good news is that there is a God who loves to empower and use His creation to carry out His purpose and vision. His word declares to all of us that He has thoughts for us and they are of peace to grant onto us a hope and a future.
My prayer this Christmas is that you will find the real and lasting hope and a peace that surpasses all understanding. Like Mary and Joseph, you will encounter the Son of God, like the shepherds you will receive the Savior, and like the wise men you will meet your King.
Jesus is the answer to all we truly seek. He came into this world as the perfect gift and when he ascended into heaven He left behind for us another perfect gift, the gift of Peace. In John 14, Jesus said “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not you hearts be troubled, neither let it be afraid”.
All you have to do is call on His name and you will encounter this perfect peace. Let today be the beginning of a new journey, invite Jesus Christ into your heart and allow him to be your guide. Allow Him to release onto you a hope and future that is filled with the abundant life.
Think about it; the Father took a bunch of shepherds who spent the majority of their time in the presence of sheep isolated from culture, and revealed Jesus to them! They became the first recorded witnesses testifying to the birth of Christ!
Imagine what Jesus can do with you?
May the love of Christ reign in you heart this Christmas season and always!
